On July 18, 2013, a partnership agreement on the Cité de l’économie et de la monnaie (City of economics and money) project was signed between the Minister of National Education (represented by Jean-Paul Delahaye, Director General of School Education) and the Governor of the Banque de France (represented by Marc-Olivier Strauss-Kahn, Director General of Studies and International relations).
Since the first feasibility study (2008), the Ministry of National Education has been involved in the Cité project. The Dean of the General Inspection of Economics and Social Sciences (SES), or his/her representative, is a member of the Cité’s Scientific Council . Teachers of SES, economics-management, history and geography contribute, along with Banque de France experts, to the preparation of the Cité’s contents. Many of them have tested with their pupils games and other teaching resources prepared by the project team. The latter includes a SES teacher recruited by Banque de France and seconded by the Ministry.
The partnership agreement reinforces and broadens this long-standing cooperation. It identifies the services that the Cité de l’économie will propose to youngsters and teachers after its opening, scheduled for 2019, or, for some of these services, right from now. These services will include : tours of the permanent exhibition (2400 square meters) and of the temporary exhibitions, various resources designed to help visitors and teachers (guided tours, audio guides, pedagogical kits for both students and teachers, etc), educational workshops, conferences and debates, a resource center dedicated to the pedagogy of economics, as well as online educational resources.
This agreement is signed in the broader context of the actions undertaken, since 1995, by the Banque de France, as part of its contribution to the education of young people in economics, money and finance, with the Ministry of National Education : educational workshops during class visits to the Banque de Fance, production and distribution of educational videos on money for primary and high schools, cooperation with the Créteil and Paris school districts for educational assistance to pupils ... Also, in the context of preparing the Cité de l’économie, the Banque de France partnered with the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie on "L’économie: krach, boom, mue ?" (“All you need to know about economics”), a 1000-square-meter temporary exhibition which ran in Paris most of 2013.
