Les Rencontres des SES are an initiative of the Ministry for education (Académie de Paris) to raise the pupils’ awareness of economic themes, and to allow them to understand current issues better.

During these meetings, 11th grade high school students studying economics and social sciences will get to meet well-known economists, there to discuss with them themes related to their curriculum and current debates.

Prior to this annual meeting, students prepare questions related to the meeting’s theme, which they will have previously studied in class with their teacher thanks to the documents available on the website. After the meeting, students will chose to study a particular subject and will produce a document which will be published afterwards, respecting specific requirements.

The first Rencontre des SES were held on January 17th, 2012. 450 students attended the event. The event was organized around a con¬ference of Laurent Gille (teacher with the Economic and Social Sciences department of Télécom Paris) on the theme “The place of digital technologies in the economy, and its contribution to growth”. A round table then tackled the theme “Digital technologies and social networks”.

The Rencontres des SES and the Cité de l’économie et de la monnaie are discussing a possible partnership.
