THE EXHIBITION ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ECONOMICS, IN MARSEILLE

After opening at the Cité de Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris in 2013, the exhibition All You Need to Know About Economics moved to Marseille in 2015, where it ran from 3 March to 7 June.

As in Paris, the aim was to familiarise visitors with some of the basic concepts of economics and give them pointers to help them understand the economic challenges of today.

The exhibition used interactive learning to make the subject matter more accessible, and was particularly suitable for school visits as part of school syllabus. The Marseille version of the exhibition included three new features.

Guided tours were available for groups of about 15, or half a class. Led by a mediator, these offered a livelier, more interactive experience of the exhibits.

Marseille also saw the launch of the Cité de l’Economie’s latest workshop, “The Sheep Market Game”, which is now available online for use in school lessons. To accompany the exhibition, the Cité de l’Economie held a series of 9 conference-debates which tackled themes that are currently in the headlines: growth, the euro, fiscal policy, public debt, monetary policy, climate change, globalisation and the business world.

All You Need to Know About Economics was housed at the Villeneuve-Bargemon Centre in the Old Port of Marseille, and was co-sponsored by the city council.

For teachers, the site also contains five teaching guides to help prepare the visit (Sciences économiques et sociales, Économie-gestion voie professionnelle, Économie-gestion voie technologique, Histoire-géographie collège and Histoire-géographie lycée).
