The Banque de France supports the Prize for the Best Financial Article, a competition organised by the French Association of Financial and Economic Journalists (AJEF) and by the association Lire l’économie (Lire la société).

This prize is awarded to journalists for articles on the financial sphere. There were 52 candidates this year. The prize winners selected by the jury on 8 April 2015 were:

- for the “young journalist” category, Marie Charrel, for her article “La France est-elle l’homme malade de l’Europe ?”, published in Le Monde on 9 September 2014 ;

- for the “experienced journalist” category, Catherine Le Gall and Benjamin Adam (illustrator) for the comic “Dommages et intérêts” (see an extract) published in the quarterly La Revue Dessinée, autumn 2014.

The articles were assessed by a panel of 14 personalities (economists, journalists, communication specialists, etc.). During the awarding of the prizes, Christian Noyer, Governor of the Banque de France, stressed the role of economic and financial journalists who contribute to “simplifying a complex area”, and explaining to readers sometimes technical or complicated notions or events. He wanted to dedicate the 2015 edition to Bernard Maris, member of the General Council of the Banque de France, “endearing personality, iconoclastic economist, writer, columnist, journalist, but above all, in the noblest sense of the term, a hugely talented popularizer”.
