The first “Rencontre des SES” was held on January 17th, 2012. 450 students attended the event. The event was organized around a conference by Laurent Gille (teacher with the Economic and Social Sciences department of Télécom Paris) on the theme “The place of digital technologies in the economy, and its contribution to growth”. A round table then tackled the theme “Digital techno-logies and social networks”.

On that occasion, the “Rencontres des SES” and the Cité de l’économie et de la monnaie announced the establishment of a partnership.

The “Rencontres des SES” are an initiative of the Ministry for education (Paris Academy) to raise the pupils’ awareness of economic themes, and to allow them to understand current issues better.

During these meetings, 11th grade high school students studying economics and social sciences will get to meet well-known economists, there to discuss with them themes related to the school curriculum and current debates.

Prior to this annual meeting, students prepare questions related to the meeting’s theme, which they will have previously studied in class with their teacher thanks to the documents available on the website. After the meeting, students will chose to study a particular subject and will produce a document which will be published afterwards, respecting specific requirements.
