The Nantes History Museum presents, until May 20th, 2012, an exhibition on the relationship between the women of Nantes and labor from the 18th century to nowadays.

The exhibition sheds light on the fact that women have always been part of the workforce and looks at the jobs they occupied and the wages they earned. It shows that women have played major parts in the industrial and commercial sectors.

Historical and contemporary aspects are put in perspective. Documents, filmed testimonies and photographic portraits are exposed to illustrate the subject.

Several events are organized around the exhibition: artistic installations, discussions and thematic visits enable the visitor to have a complementary approach of the subject. A catalogue, Les Nantaises au travail (ed. Château des ducs de Bretagne – musée d’histoire de Nantes), has been edited for the occasion and can be downloaded on the website.
