Creation of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Eurosystem

The ECB is responsible for the single European currency and its main task is maintaining price stability throughout the euro area. The Eurosystem is the monetary authority of the euro area. It comprises, in addition to the ECB, the national central banks of all the EU Member States that have adopted the euro.
