The anamorphisis proposed by the Cité de l'économie
will show you the world in a way you may have never seen it.

Select the indicator of your choice at the top left of the screen
and then click on the 'Run the animation' button.

The surface of each country on the map then becomes proportional to the chosen indicator.
Thus, two countries that have the same value for this indicator
will have the same surface after transformation.

For some indicators, you can follow the evolution of the map over time by clicking the ► button that appears at the bottom left of the map.

The indicator currently selected is:

This indicator gives the number of articles published in scientific and technical journals for each country in areas such as mathematics, physics and engineering.
Taking all countries together, this number almost doubled between 1990 and 2011 to reach 842,756 articles in 2011. The United States and the European Union produced 55% of these published articles.
Their proportion of the total has however decreased as they accounted for 75% of the articles published in 1990. Publication in scientific and technical journals by developing countries has increased, notably in the Asian countries that have seen strong economic growth over the period.
The United States and Europe are the main producers of scientific papers.   Find out more
