The anamorphisis proposed by the Cité de l'économie
will show you the world in a way you may have never seen it.

Select the indicator of your choice at the top left of the screen
and then click on the 'Run the animation' button.

The surface of each country on the map then becomes proportional to the chosen indicator.
Thus, two countries that have the same value for this indicator
will have the same surface after transformation.

For some indicators, you can follow the evolution of the map over time by clicking the ► button that appears at the bottom left of the map.

The indicator currently selected is:
"Mobile phone subscriptions, 1990-2014"

This indicator measures the number of mobile phone subscriptions in each country.
Taking all countries together, the number of subscriptions increased more than 600-fold in the space of 24 years, reaching just under 7 billion in 2014.
Whereas the Americas accounted for over 50% of mobile phone subscriptions in 1990, their share shrank considerably in favour of Asia, which in 2014 accounted for 60% of subscriptions.
Africa also recorded very strong growth in the number of mobile phone subscriptions between 1990 and 2014: it increased by an average factor of 1.8 each year over this period.
The most populous countries, such as India and China, are those where the number of mobile phone subscriptions is the highest.   Find out more
