The vaults of the Banque de France

After the First World War, it was decided to strengthen the security of the Banque de France’s gold reserves. The construction of an underground vault underneath the head offices of the Banque de France was therefore initiated.

The film, made by the Banque de France, tells the story of the major works conducted from May 1924 to November 1927, involving 1200 workers on a 1.7 hectare site. It also shows the security arrangements that were subsequently implemented.
