PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE BANQUE DE FRANCE AND THE MONNAIE DE PARIS (PARIS MINT)

Christian Noyer, Governor of the Banque de France, and Christophe Beaux, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Monnaie de Paris, have signed a partnership agreement as part of the project to create the Cité de l’Économie et de la Monnaie.

The Monnaie de Paris launched its own “Metalmorphoses” project in 2008, to completely renovate and redesign its historical headquarters and Paris workshops on the banks of the River Seine (Quai Conti). The premises are due to reopen to the public in stages, in 2014 and 2015.

Since the start of the Cité de l’Économie et de la Monnaie project in 2009, the Banque de France and Monnaie de Paris have worked in close cooperation, in order to coordinate their respective museum content and ensure their projects complement each other. As part of this cooperation, the Monnaie de Paris has agreed to loan the Banque de France a banknote printing machine dating back to the French Revolution (photo), which will go on display at the Cité de l’Économie.

The partnership agreement is a way for both parties to formalise and strengthen this relationship and extend their collaboration to other areas. As part of the contract they will organise joint events (such as temporary exhibitions and conferences), aimed at the general public and especially school children.
